It has been, she says thoughtfully, an interesting year.

This time last year I was... well, that's not my story to tell, and it appears that it is no longer a part of my world, however...

Here I lounge, on a different bed (mine), working from a different laptop (mine), in a different house (not mine). A few years ago I would have laughed at you to hear that, with all the different things vying for my attention this NYE, I would have chosen to stay home. I would've laughed at the same things about Halloween this year as well. Times, circumstances change, things change, and each year is different from the last; a perfect seashell in someone's eyes, though perhaps ugly to others.

This year brought a lot of change, that's for sure.

I moved into a new house with friends, lost my old laptop (Clotho died), gained a shiny new netbook and a lot of second-hand hardware, joined Bella Donna and made my return to Faire, lost my beloved job, spent a few months trying not to freak out about unemployment, watched the launch of several interesting hacker endeavors, sewed up a storm, loved, lost, lost fifteen pounds, loved and stuck, rejoined the ranks of the employed, gained that fifteen back ( :( ), and began once again to consider the merits of cohabitation (after lots and lots of unpleasant memories were expunged). I went to Denver for Christmas. First time I haven't gone home for the holidays. I met his parents; they're really nice.

Somewhere in there I fell off the world, and for that I apologize.

I can't even begin to compile a highlights reel of the last... um, is it four now? Four months that I've glossed over and completely neglected to write about. If you have entertaining questions, please don't hesitate to ask. The Job and the Boyfriend are eating up my time something fierce and unexpected, and my desire to write has been atrophying except that I want to keep in touch with so many of you.

I do miss writing for myself, but that will just have to wait, methinks. Apologies folks. I can't explain it fully, but right now my job-writing has a much higher non-personal precedence than my fiction.

And yes, I really do love my job that much. I really do think that this is worth it.

So, yes. I'm curled up in bed tonight snuggling with one of his t-shirts, missing him, but happy he's enjoying himself with friends. I can't say that I didn't do the same: the backyard was an amazing sight of tiki glory, unfortunately situated in December, and there was good food and lots and lots of booze. I should probably have some water now. Yeah.

Just a second.

Man, San Jose water is terrible. It'll keep me from dying of dehydration, at least though. And it's nearly 3am, and time for some sleeping, I think. I find myself both stressed out by and strangely content with life, and that's really just how I best thrive.

Happy New Year, all of you.

Year-End Tidings.

  • Dec. 31st, 2009 at 8:32 PM
It's the new year. We're all celebrating the passing of 2009, and new situations in 2010. There are thousands of people, fellow Americans, overseas, for whom nothing will change tomorrow, or the next day, or the next day. I'm speaking of our Fighting Men and Women in Theatre overseas in Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere. Raise a toast to them tonight: they're the ones guaranteeing you have the freedom to raise that glass.

Also, call a cab, don't drink and drive. Your freedoms (hard won by those Fighting Men and Women) can't be enjoyed if you're not alive to enjoy them.

  • 17:00 @kahlerisms It seems to me that most car forums are full of illiterate guys doing stupid things to good cars - not just motoring chat. #
  • 17:32 @alaero haha, I don't think you've done anything stupid to your car? There's no shitty looking lights or grills. #
